UK Home Insurance Guide

In the UK there are insurance policies to cover against almost every potential situation. From car to pets, TVs to life. Some of these are required by law, some are not. Home insurance in the UK is not legally required yet heavily recommended because most people who carry a mortgage owe tens of thousands of pounds and if something were to happen to your home or property, you may not have the financial means to have it fixed.

The house you live in, whether you own it outright or you still have a mortgage, will probably be the most expensive, and valuable, asset you’ll ever finance. Your home is not only a roof over your head but a place of sentimental value as well. It’s your personal domain and it nees to be protected. It’s not worth going through life without home insurance in order to save a few pounds each month because you take a very big financial risk if something bad were to happen to your home.

Most of the time when you get a mortgage your lender will require you to have a comprehensive home insurance policy. They simply want to know that if your house were to be damaged then you can afford to pay for repairs. However, don’t feel pressured into thinking that you must take out home insurance with your mortgage provider. You have the freedom to compare policies online and we even recommend that you do. You’ll usually find a better deal from a specialist home insurance provider compared to your mortgage lender but whichever way you choose to go, make sure your home is insured.
